About Me
I've always loved stories. During my years as a children's librarian and teacher, I have shared this love with young people. For fourteen years I directed a ghost story writing contest, in addition to leading writing workshops for elementary students and sparking preschoolers' interest in books.
In my own stories, music often slips in as a theme. From early childhood, singing has been a great joy. I sang in church and school choirs as well as high school musicals. As an adult, I still sing with my church choir, with a semi-professional chorus, Vesper Chorale, and in civic theater musicals.
To accomplish creative goals like book writing and performing music, support helps. After college, I married a generous man who entertained our two daughters while I worked on writing projects, and who cared for our dog, cats and guinea pigs when I left to attend writer or teacher workshops. We now have four grandchildren.
However, the deepest support for artistic dreams comes from our Creator. I have believed in God from preschool on. My mom shared her memory of a time my brothers were climbing boulders and she was concerned about them falling. As a five-year-old I told her, “Don’t worry. Jesus will protect them.” My faith was affirmed when I was a young mother who'd been unemployed for months. I'd had a promising interview at the library, but a month passed with no word. Opening the mailbox I found a pink disconnect notice from the electric company. In desperation, I imagined tugging on the hem of Jesus’ robe and prayed, “You promised me this job!” As I was praying the phone rang, and it was the library manager, telling me when to start work!
Writing and singing helped me work through the hard and sad times in my life, and led me to many dear friends, like the members of our Taleblazers Critique Group. I am the writer on the far left side of the photo.
